ASL Safety & Security's Managment team

Over 80% of ASL Safety & Security’s employees have a degree level qualification or are trained electronic or software engineers. The founding directors started ASL in 1989 and by 1999 had sold RF Solutions, their first spin-off business, and entered into solid customer relationships with BMW, Jaguar and Amstrad. Members of the management team come from diverse backgrounds in the electronics and software industries and contribute a wealth of experience to ASL Safety & Security's rapidly growing organisation.

 

Directors

Sousan Azimrayat

Sousan Azimrayat – Managing Director

Sousan gained a Masters degree in Digital Signal Processing from City University, London and had several techincal and commercial positionswithin the semiconductor industry, notably with NEC, prior to founding Application Solutions (Safety and Security) Ltd. with Peter Stewart in 1989. Sousan has developed the commercial side of the business and has been responsible for developing the infastructure to support its growth.

Peter Stewart

Peter Stewart – Technical Director

Peter studied Electrical Engineering at Leeds University before starting at GEC Coventry as a Development Engineer. In 1989 he founded ASL , initially a design consultancy, working on microcontrollers and embedded systems. In 1998 Peter and his engineering team developed their first amplifiers to serve the rail sector, in 2001 they pioneered the use of DSP audio routers and in 2004 they won the largest ever voice alarm contract in UK rail to London Underground’s stringent specifications. In 2007 Peter was instrumental in developing iVENCS with the goal of creating a management system that was "more than the sum of its parts".

Richard Lack

Richard Lack – Director of Sales and Marketing

Richard joied ASL Safety & Security in 2008, bringing 16 years’ experience in blue-chip enterprise software solutions with internet advertising pioneers NetGravity, Doubleclick and later Morningstar Europe. Richard spent four years working on video and audio analytics in the security sector with video content analysis start-up IPSOTEK, where he was responsible for the UK’s first use of audio gunshot and aggression detection, thermal analytics and virtual turnstiles for clients such as the O2 Arena, the London Eye and TfL. Richard is a frequent speaker at industry events such as IFSEC.

Martin Bland

Martin Bland - Finance Director

Martin joined ASL after 12 years as finance director of Amstrad plc. He is an economics graduate from Manchester University and qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. His background includes a variety of financial roles with Rio Tinto plc. Martin has a twin role with ASL (Safety & Security) and ASL (Electronics & Vision). He combines financial control with strategic vision as the companies develop their products in response to market development.

Phil Ddderidge

Phil Dodderidge - Director of Engineering

Phil has overseen ten years of external audits of ASL Safety & Security products during which not a single non-compliance issue has been raised against the company. He has written much of the software for ASL ’s Voice Alarm systems and currently works on assessment of software suitability, heading up a team of engineers. His role also involves creation of user documentation which is an integral part of evaluating ASL Safety & Security’s products for standards compliance, performance robustness and fitness for purpose. As an honours graduate from the University of Kent, Phil forms a bridge between engineering disciplines and end-users whose background may be less technical. He was project manager for ASL Safety & Security’s first implementation of the iVENCS system, overseeing introduction of the software at St Pancras International Station as part of a £800m refurbishment.

Jonathan Gamman

Jonathan Gamman - Senior Business Development Manager

Jonathan became part of the ASL Safety & Security team in November 2009 having previously spent 11 years in industry. Prior to joining ASL Safety & Security, Jonathan established a UK business unit for the international engineering consulting group Altran and provided technical and management consulting services to clients in the automotive, motor sports, defence and aerospace industries. Jonathan’s diverse industry experience and knowledge from his BSc and MBA education is now applied at ASL Safety & Security, where his focus is to develop and manage major customer accounts across all product lines and sectors.

Nick Sutton

Nick Sutton - Business Development Manager

Nick is a Technical BSc (Hons) graduate who previously worked for four years in the building automation/control industry, an area with synergy for ASL Safety & Security’s operations. With experience as a system designer, installer, programmer and pre-sales rep, he now uses his ability as a business developer to increase market awareness of control and PA/VA technologies by preparing solutions for clients and drafting proposals. Nick actively promotes iVENCS across infrastructure sectors, communicating the benefits of ASL Safety & Security’s control system to commercial and government organisations responsible for transport hubs. He is multi-lingual and has particular insight into business processes in Scandinavia.
